With regular brushing and flossing, the implant screw itself can last a lifetime, assuming the patient receives regular dental check-ups every 6 months. The crown, however, usually only lasts about 10 to 15 years before it may need a replacement due to wear and tear. However, maintaining excellent dental hygiene and using it cautiously could extend the life of the crown beyond 15 years. Mouth location is also a factor in predicting the life of a dental implant. Implants in the rear of the mouth are used more actively in chewing, which means they will likely wear out more quickly than implants near the front of the mouth.
Will it hurt? No, it is not painful! A very small percentage of people may have slight sensitivity, but it is uncommon. You can avoid extremely hot or cold food/drinks 24 hours after the treatment as a precaution.

- Dental anxiety is common, but there are ways to help you manage it.
- Dental phobia is less common and your dentist might need to work with your doctor and other health professionals to manage it.
- If anxiety prevents you from going to the dentist, there are things that can help you cope. Talk to your dentist about which options are right for you. You may need to speak to a psychologist or counsellor to help you deal with your anxiety. Some psychological coping techniques include:
- deep breathing
- meditation
- distraction (such as listening to music or the use of devices)
- guided imagery
- progressive muscle relaxation
- agreeing with your dentist on a signal to stop during the treatment for a break (such as raising your left pointer finger or hand)
